As an ever evolving and changing game, Company of Heroes 3 used a live service model, rolling out multiple updates, patches, community events and more after the game’s tentpole release. As the lead marketing artist it was my job to communicate these updates through clear and eye catching imagery. This included visual development and execution of artwork for major patches, roadmaps, marketing partnerships, Amazon Prime assets, community events, livestreams, and much more.
Exploring new ways to create visual interest with assets is an exciting challenge and one I eagerly embraced, particularly when given the opportunity to come up with an overarching look and feel for the major update marketing art. The goal was to create a clear visual motif that would be memorable and distinctive to players, yet still fitting of the subject manner. Given the roll out of updates would be frequent and ongoing, the art needed to be low cost, time effective and versatile. Taking inspiration from WW2 ‘graffiti style’ nose art, the animal illustrations paired with bold stencil fonts, provides an iconic identity for each major update.
